Small theatre in a dicey neighborhood
I came here for the preview show of Eleanor during the Divafest 2011. One of my friend happened to be in the cast. The show is funny. The actors and actresses utilize the whole theatre wonderfully. This theatre is probably one of a kind. Audiences can actually bring food and drink inside the theatre which is not good. You can hear someone opening a can of Pepsi in the middle of the performance sometimes. There is a cafe for you to buy food and drink. The theatre is in a very dicey neighborhood. It can get scary especially at night. The ticket prices are extremely cheap.
The epicenter of new work in SF.
I'll admit a bias: I'm their playwright-in-residence. But the EXIT, now in its 25th year, is one of the greatest venues for ground-breaking yet affordable theatre in SF, possibly all of California. The neighborhood looks a little dicey, so don't act like a tourist... stride confidently toward an authentic home to SF's finest new theatre.
