What we say
SOMA leather bar
CHAPS II is a triumphant new addition to the SOMA leather and gear bar scene. According to the the web site: "It’s not just leather, but leather is a very big part of our bar."
Chaps II is the latest incarnation of an iconic SF bar. Chuck Slaton and Ron Morrison signed a lease for 375 11th Street (the current DNA Lounge) in 1981 and turned the auto body shop into one of SOMA’s infamous leather bars before it eventually went out of business during the AIDS crisis.

The drinks are cheap and strong; and the crowd are friendly and nice; but a pretty mellow and sparse crowd. Definitely a neighborhood bar!

We made this our last stop on a pretty quiet Sunday night after hitting most of the SOMA bars, CHAPS II has by far the hottest bartenders, quick with a beer and a smile. Wish we would have gone in a little earlier.

It's unfortunate that the former My Place reopened as a stale leather bar. It just doesn't work, and the fence decor is just plain tired. Better they should have taken a cue from the former longtime manager, Cip, and made it a mash-up bar, say leather and metal music, or something. As it is, this place just doesn't make it.

Ok, went here on a Saturday night for Men in Gear night. There were maybe 6 people in gear besides the bar tenders, and maybe 25 people total. Time was near 11 pm, and the bar tender was friendly as hell, but no crowd and the ones that were there were a bit old. Cold beer, cheap prices, but crowd left a lot to be desired!
