The fun moves to new spot
Once a sleepy & sleazy neighborhood hangout, The Transfer has had a complete makeover, morphing into Bar on Church: larger club, updated sound system, DJs, and what it is calling "retro glam" interior styling. Located five blocks from the bar hub of Castro and 18th Streets, it now joins the popular bar Pilsner and gay-friendly restaurants Home and Chow in a newly developing nightlife area in the queer 'hood. Pink drinks flow like water. The crowds tends to be young, stylin and very cruisey. (If you notice the resemblance to the former Bar on Castro, there's a reason. The owner lost his lease in the old space, and simply moved his staff and concept to the new location on Church.)

Great location for the Castro-haters but pretty generic feel to the latest bar incarnation at this location. Good happy hour prices until 9pm (I think) so if you and your friends are passing by, this could be a watering hole you stop at on your way to the Castro. Maybe they'll spiff it up but so far it just kind of has a lack of a concept and a bit of a ghost town feel to it.
