The Edge is ugly, usually stinks, and I absolutely adore it. Unlike so many SF bars, the bartenders here actually understand they are in the hospitality business. The crowd is eclectic, friendly and sometimes quite wild. Sunday afternoon/evening is a great neighborhood party with 70s music. Drinks are a huge bargain but watch out: 1 at the Edge = 3 elsewhere.

Great place to feel like you're amongst the community and the pressure of not being part of the "twinks" and "20 something" crowd is great. The Edge offers great Bartenders, friendly atmosphere, great drinks and windows to watch the gaggle of people coming and going on 18th Street.
There is no performance pressure, and if you let yourself, you'll have a great time!

The Edge is still a friendly place to go and see friends and meet new ones. It gets crowded on Friday nights with the after work crowd, so crowded you are forced to speak to the guy next to you, and if you postion yourself right you can have a great evening and night!

I never loved the Edge but for awhile it had a fun after work crowd(30's,40's bear friendly type) and the fundraisers could be a blast. That's all gone now and the crowd is thinning out. There is an odor in there that gets worse and the bar itself needs a lot of work. I suspect the Edge won't be around much longer
So, what do you say?
