I went to Marlena's for the first time on my 22nd birthday and i had an amazing time. The staff were incredibly sweet and attentive and the clientele was a nice mix.

And talk about a drag show. This is the best I've seen in San Francisco this year. I wish it had a dance floor and dancing. I had a really cute young hung and dumb guy groping me, to a drag queen that's true love. Most people were more than willing to talk and smile and I got more than one hug. Great place to have fun, get groped and watch a drag show in drag.

Not bad if you are watching a friend in a drag competition, but otherwise this is a dull bar on a boring stretch of Hayes Street. It's serviceable if you are looking for something nearby after opera or symphony, but the clientele is mixed and there much better watering holes in Hayes Valley.

It must be that you have to know somebody to be treated well at Marlena's. I was ignored by one bartender and treated like crap by another one. I tried to talk with folks at the bar, but got nowhere. In fact, when I did get a little conversation in with one guy, he turned his back on me in mid-sentence and walked over to a drag queen and fussed over her gown. Maybe this kind of attitude works for some people, but not for me. It is positively the worst experience I've ever had in a bar, gay or straight.

marlenas at one point in times was home to many and a place to see old friends and GREAT SHOW with performers like grand duchess 20 barbi Q hayes , patty mae. pat monclairs,sissy spaceout cassy, miss cheri, ro flack to many of them are now gone in body and not in spirit. marlena i met when i was 22 yrs old in modesto and cant help but love the old bitch.its been a long time but i am sure marlenas is still doing it the RIGHT WAY ANGEL

its a great place to hang out for the night. the entertainment is awesome and the staff is great. you cant leave with out having a shot of jager with Marlena. Ma will always treat you right.

For a TG to go and have a drinkor two before going out dancing at a club. The drinks are reasonable theres a pool table, A dice game that starts of every now and then. A good homey envirorment. A place to go when you need to relax also a diva show every other friday or saturday night.
