Participating in the Aids Life Cycle has become one of my most cherished life changing events. I began participating out of a joy for cycling. The exhilaration; the absolute freedom which only comes from being real, in the world and in the moment;, building up strength, stamina and confidence mile after mile – who could want anything more? In the beginning I rode to prove to myself, “if I can do this, I can do anything!” The challenger of setting a goal, working towards its accomplishment and achieving it gave me the courage to seek out greater challengers.
Today, I ride to see the lights. As I became a part of the ALC Family, interacting with so many; cyclists, roadies and the hundreds of people I have had the honor to meet and get to know by reaching out in the community and inviting others to join me in support of this worthy cause. I began to notice one outstanding commonality – “the lights”. These lights shine from deep within a compassionate heart and its brilliance fills me with so much joy and gives me a peace that some may never get to experience.
These thighs shine in the eyes, faces, and hearts of those committed to taking a part in making the world a better place. In those who shine an instant and soulful connection can be felt and creates lasting bonds of friendship, family and love.
I did not realize this until completing my first ALC ride. Hours after the finish line I met veteran rider. The connection was instantaneous as torrents of joyful tears came pouring from our eyes while sharing our stories and experiences.
This is why I ride. I ride to see the lights and to feel the bonds of friendship, love, family and to take and to continue to be active participant in making the world a better place.
Step in to the light…
Join me at 440 March 16th for Beefy Biker Beer Bust!
