Community Action Center playfully meshes the erotics of a community of lovers, friends and collaborators where the personal is not only political, but sexual. This queer, trans and women-centered project is heavily inspired by seminal 1970s porn – yet the film demands that this representation not only be included but attacks the canon of pornography itself. CAC is set to a soundtrack of Chicks on Speed, Electrelane, K8 Hardy, Lesbians on Ecstasy, Light Asylum, Thee Majesty and MEN and includes original compositions by Justin Bond, Ashland Mines & Wu Tsang among others.

And more info about this amazing video project intended to question and inspire sexual creativity, especially feminist queer sexual creativity:
Community Action Center incorporates the erotics of a community where the personal is not only political, but sexual. This project was heavily inspired by 1970’s porn-romance-liberation films which served as distinct portraits of the urban inhabitants, landscapes and the body politic of a particular time and place. Community Action Center is a unique contemporary womyn-centric composition that serves as both an ode and a hole-filler. Sex, sexuality and the complexities of gendered bodies are inherently political. This project is a small archive of an intergenerational community built on collaboration, friendship, sex and art. The work attempts to explore a consideration of feminist fashion, sexual aesthetics and an expansive view of what is defined as ‘sex’. Burns and Steiner worked with artists and performers who created infinitely complex gender and performance roles that are both real and fantastical, set to a soundtrack that includes Chicks on Speed, Electrelane, K8 Hardy, Lesbians on Ecstasy, Light Asylum, Thee Majesty and MEN and includes original compositions by Justin Bond, Ashland Mines & Wu Tsang among others.
NOTE:
Community Action Center, as intended by the directors and the community who collaborated on its making, is not available for solo viewing, the primary mode of porn consumption. Available neither on DVD nor online, CAC can be viewed only in public, in community, with others. To emphasize the social context of viewing our two screenings will include a talkback with one of the directors plus special guests (Thu Feb 28, Counterpulse) and a participatory, embodied "warm up" (Fri Mar 1, The Holdout).
NOTE ON SEXUAL EXPLICITENSS:
CAC is not a porn but it uses various kinds of porn as liberatory models to appropriate, and as norms to critique, and as aesthetic tropes to inspire both imitation and experimentation. The sex is alternately real, camp, fantasy, actual, stylized, performed.
