On Saturday, May 18, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, G4G is working with the Sutro Stewards at the UCSF Mt. Sutro Open Space Reserve (behind UCSF – Parnassus, NOT at Sutro Tower). We’ll be building some terraced planting areas, involving both excavation and stacking concrete drywalls. We may also be performing trail and habitat work within the Mt. Sutro Open Space. A range of activities will be available, from the challenging to the less taxing.
IMPORTANT STUFF: We will gather at 9:00 am and then hike for about 10 min. up to the work site. Please bring your own coffee, water and snacks since we’ll be in an area that doesn’t have a water supply or lend itself to a snack table (G4G may be able to provide some snacks, but they likely won’t be substantial). We are advised to prepare as though we are going on a day hike.
ATTIRE: Dress in layers. We are told to wear shoes that have a good tread since much of the work will be on a hillside.
SNACKS & DRINKS: Bring whatever refreshment you may want/need for the morning. At the end of our work, the Sutro Stewards will provide pizza and beer – yeah, you read it right – beer!
WHERE TO REPORT: We will meet at the Woods Lot, up the hill behind UCSF Parnassus Campus (plenty of free parking).
LOCATION: 100 Medical Center Way, http://goo.gl/maps/zvPbL
ABOUT: The Mount Sutro Open Space Reserve is a peaceful hill in central SF that hosts the City’s first network of multi-use trails within an open space area. The Sutro Stewards program “has taken the lead with trails specifically designed and constructed to handle contemporary off road recreation including hiking, running, cycling, and nature observation. These trails have provided the access necessary to implement habitat conservation measures within previously inaccessible areas.” For more info: http://sutrostewards.org/
