San Francisco Suicide Prevention (SFSP), with support from San Francisco AIDS Foundation, will host a two-part community discussion to talk about suicide prevention. Recent suicides in the gay community have renewed conversations about what we can all do to help each other, how we can identify warning signs, and how to address depression and isolation. Join SFSP for these important forums which will create safe spaces to provide support and bring people together to openly talk about suicide—a sensitive subject we don’t address often enough.
PART ONE: Suicide in San Francisco: Myths, Facts and Care —Wednesday, May 8: The first session addresses some of the myths, facts, and statistics around suicide within the context of San Francisco, and shares some of the prevention strategies used to assist people who are deeply depressed or isolated. Led by David Paisley, deputy director of San Francisco Suicide Prevention.
PART TWO: Suicide Prevention: Taking Care of Others —Wednesday, May 22: The second session, held in a workshop format, explores topics such as suicide triggers, individual warning signs, and techniques that have proven effective in reducing suicide deaths. It will be focused on building skills to take care of others and yourself. Led by Michelle Thomas, outreach and communication director at San Francisco Suicide Prevention.
At both sessions, trained experts from SFSP will be leading the discussions and will be on-hand to address the needs of all people attending the forums.
Both sessions will be located at STOP AIDS Project office on their respective days from 6-8pm.
