Perspectives from the AIDS Generation
San Francisco AIDS Foundation and STOP AIDS Project are excited to host the next anticipated Real Talk, our public forum series. The goal of this series is to host timely, interactive dialogs and exchange knowledge and resources around topics at the forefront of discussions in our community.
Inspired by the Medius Working Group in New York, which hosted a similar forum on this important topic in May 2013, and recent successful local grassroots efforts by Let's Kick ASS to bring this important conversation to the West Coast, San Francisco AIDS Foundation and Stop AIDS Project want to continue the conversation about what the community wants and needs, and what it has to offer.
Join us for this free community forum to assess what it's like to be part of the "AIDS Generation," to have lived through the epidemic in the 1980s and 1990s, and how those experiences have affected the lives we've led since then.
Are you …
• a gay man in midlife, whether HIV-positive or HIV-negative?
• a former or current AIDS activist, caregiver or service provider?
• someone who lost friends, lovers and/or colleagues to the epidemic?
We know our experiences as the AIDS Generation spans across race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and social/economic status. All are welcome to attend. Let's come together to reflect on the past, discuss our individual and community needs, and talk about our generation's legacy and future.
Ask yourself …
• How do I connect to those who don't recognize what I went through?
• How do we pass along our stories and lessons to a younger generation?
• Who are the people who best understand our experiences?
• What places serve as “our Veterans Administration” to help us manage?
• Is anyone caring for the “wounded AIDS warriors” who never really recovered?
• What would help me cope better than I do now with what we went through?
• Is this the life I thought I would lead?
• How do we envision our futures?
