San Francisco Pride is a rite of passage, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the globe, befitting the queer Mecca on the bay. The 39th anniversary parade kicks off at 10:30am, Saturday June 28th from the Embarcadero Plaza across from the magnificent Ferry Building (Market & Beal). The parade works its way along Market Street to the festival at Civic Center Plaza (Market & 8th St). The Plaza is shadowed by the gilded City Hall, and you can’t help but feel awed by the gay history that transpired here. The festival, filled with music, dance, politics and free condoms, pulsates until 7pm. Dustin Lance Black, screenwriter of “Milk,” is grand marshal. Harvey Milk most certainly would have approved the parade's theme, "a more perfect union" and the throngs of openly gay revelers.
