Friends & Family, Queer-Mixed San FranDisco! Dress to Sweat!
San Francisco has a diverse disco scene that often crosses over but not often enough! The goal of Go BANG! is to bring the crews and their devoted dancers together in a mixed, diverse, exciting environment, with a nod to the diversity and freedom of the 70's/80's San Francisco/New York/Chicago disco nightlife!
Disco freaks, art school boys & girls, drag queens & kings, boogie-heads, fierce dancers, flashy dressers, sexy girls, hot boys, DJs, dancers, photographers, artists, fashionistas; gay/straight/bi/tri/whateva! Bring your flashiest, trashiest, classiest, sexiest, craziest style; but bring an open mind, big smile, and shoes that will allow you to dance from opening to last call! We will start with fire and end with fire!
Taking inspiration from the classic Dinosaur L. song, "Go BANG!": http://soundcloud.com/synthetigers/dinosaur-l-go-bang-the
"I wanna see all my friends at once
I'll do anything to get a chance to
Goooo BANG!"

*BUS STATION JOHN
DJ Bus Station John is one of Steve & Sergio’s favorite DJs & people, a Disco Sister, and his musical & stylistic trailblazing is a big reason Go BANG! and many an SF disco party has been able to exist. We appreciate him so very much and can’t wait to have him on the decks! The dancers already know & love this man and his music, and we are so ready to be taken on a sweaty, ecstatic trip!
Since he first started creating mixtapes for queer house parties back in 1997 (subsequently becoming a full-fledged DJ in 2001), San Francisco's pioneer underground disco revivalist Bus Station John has been a man on a mission: to rescue from musical oblivion late 70's/early 80's bathhouse-era dance classics & curiosities, the soundtrack to what he calls the post-Stonewall, pre-AIDS "Golden Age of Gay." An incorrigible vinyl addict with a passion for "lost" dance music, BSJ adores taking older gay men on a trip down memory lane while simultaneously inspiring new generations of queer ears. His sets are a trademark blend of rare gems unearthed from such genres as disco, hi-NRG, funk, soul, R&B, "boogie," electrofunk, euro/italo disco, new & no-wave, and encompass sounds from San Francisco's famed cha-cha palace Trocadero Transfer to Manhattan's legendary Paradise Garage---and well beyond....
BSJ currently rules the decks at his popular Tenderloin dance party/Thursday night alt-queer institution The Tubesteak Connection (celebrating its tenth anniversary this spring at Aunt Charlie's Lounge, 133 Turk & Taylor), featuring b&w xeroxed decor & vintage vids incorporating a mixture of antique gay erotica & old Hollywood camp in homage to such retro-homo icons as Divine, Grace Jones, Candy Darling, Amanda Lear, Peter Berlin, Joan Crawford, & Mae West; at LOVE WILL FIX IT: An R&B Funk Party For The Soul, where he showcases the best in black dance music circa '77-'83 ("R&B from A-Z: Ashford & Simpson to ZAPP!"), packing Stephanie Mills, Teena Marie & Chaka Khan-lovers into The Hot Spot (1414 Market & Polk; select dates TBA); and at his latest creation, DISCO DADDY!, a festive, post-beer bust, 5-hour tea dance where he spins classic disco & hi-NRG at the first-ever dance party to be thrown at the venerable SF Eagle (3rd & 5th Sundays of each month).
DJ Bus Station John was a recipient of the San Francisco Bay Guardian GOLDIE award in the field of music, as well as named "Most Original DJ" by the SF Weekly in its Best of San Francisco Issue. He has also appeared in support of a wide variety of causes, ranging from LGBT youth & seniors to safe sex, an issue especially close to his heart: "About 95 percent of what I spin is on used vinyl. Sometimes I look at my records and wonder about their previous owners. So many were gay men---DJs and disco-lovers lost to AIDS---whose music ended up in thrift stores and bargain bins, their collections broken up and scattered like ashes to the wind. I'll their find names stamped or handwritten on the labels. I think of these men and try to honor them. I believe part of them is resurrected every time I play their songs...."
*ANDY TRICE
Andy has been a great new friend to the party since introducing himself to Steve & Sergio many a foggy and sweaty GO BANG! dancefloor ago. Amongst being a vinyl and audio head, and a DJ’s DJ, Andy is much loved by San Franciscans who remember fondly his nine year run with the Stud's notorious Wednesday disco night in the 1990s. He is celebrating his 25th year on the turntables in San Francisco! After moving here from New York in 1988, his first gig was filling in for former I-Beam dj Brian Raffi. This led to residencies at the DNA Lounge, 1015 Folsom, the CW Saloon, Pleasuredome, and that Stud 9-Year disco celebration. Andy has played for Pride at Civic Center several times, and opened shows for artists such as Erasure and Lime. Although long retired as a full time dj, Andy has never stopped playing, and returns to the Stud for his first disco set in over a decade! Please enjoy a mix of his to whet your appetite! http://www.mixcloud.com/dj_andy_t/discomix_2013/
