40 Thieves love making cool music. Cofounded in 2005 by Layne Fox and Corey Black and aided and abetted by their talented and groovy friends, their sound is a glorious racket, combining the best elements of classic and cutting edge house, vocal soul, disco nouveau, new funk, old acid, space jams and hobbit rock.
They've put the remix touch on such classic dance artists as Kid Creole and Johnny Dynell, and have released tunes and mixes on such fine imprints as Strut, Rong Music, Permanent Vacation, and most recently, Leng Music.
The good folks at Leng have just released 40 Thieves' first LP, "The Sky Is Yours." Four records long and twenty tunes deep, "The Sky Is Yours" chronicles their crazy, eclectic, beautiful sonic vibe, past and present.
Bay Area Party Institutions No Way Back and Sunset are linking up to host a 40 Thieves Record Release Party on April 12th at Club F8, with dj sets by 40 Thieves, Galen, Conor, and Solar, and Special Guest Alexander Robotnick!
Mr. Robotnick has been kicking out the jams since the early 80's and figures as a huge influence on all artists and groovers across the dance music spectrum. His classic "Problemes d'Amour" can still be heard on dancefloors everywhere, and his DJ sets are nothing short of an electronic epiphany.
