It's finally here. The awesome "KEITH HARING: THE POLITICAL LINE" exhibition at the de Young Museum (http://deyoung.famsf.org/haring) highlights the beloved New York street artist's activism with a bounty of colorful, challenging, and fierce works of art.
AIDS, apartheid, nuclear proliferation, racism, oppression, homophobia, violence, environmental destruction, economic injustice -- Haring made iconic works taking them all on before he died in 1990 at age 31.
On Friday, Nov. 14, we are throwing a FREE, huge, and joyous party to celebrate Keith's vibrant life and outspokenness, while inviting everyone to engage with the issues that inspire them most. Friday nights at the de Young are FREE and fun -- and on Fri/14 the place is gonna go wild.
****FREE ADMISSION TO THE PARTY and the museum's permanent collection (it is amazing) plus SPECIAL REDUCED ADMISSION TO "KEITH HARING: THE POLITICAL LINE." This is the first party where you'll get to see the art in a festive atmosphere -- dancing, drinking (full bar!), live performances, and socializing. ORDER YOUR TICKETS for reduced $15 admission now to guarantee exhibit access:
http://deyoung.famsf.org/haring/tickets
Anytime after 5pm on Nov. 14 has the reduced price. Don't miss out! Everything else in the museum that evening (except the drinks) will be absolutely FREE!
****DJ BUS STATION JOHN will be spinning a tribute to his classic DOUBLE DUTCH DISCO parties, taking us to the streets of early 1980s NYC, and breaking out a set featuring vintage synthesizer-drenched electro-funk, classics from the legendary Paradise Garage, R&B/boogie favorites, and the sweet musicality of pre-digital, Sugarhill-style hip-hop.
****EMCEE MARGA GOMEZ will hit you up about what issues engage you, and weave a spell of hilarious comedy and thought-provoking tales of social activism.
****AN ISSUES FAIR revealing how Keith's mission to engage and enlighten is far from over -- and how many of the issues he took on still need urgent attention today. AIDS Housing Alliance (with the Desperate Divas!), Anti-Eviction Mapping Project, Taking a Stand SF, Guardian in Exile, #NOART, Kiss My Black Arts, LYRIC, Earthjustice, California Coalition for Women Prisoners, Plaza 16, Reclaim Disrupt and more will be there to answer your questions and chat with you about how to get involved.
****GALLERY PERFORMANCES -- Experience Keith's art in a dynamic atmosphere, with theatrical genderqueer performer DAVEND and XANDRA IBARRA aka CHICA BOOM!
****FILMS ABOUT KEITH in the Koret Auditorium, artist-in-residence LEONARD TEBEGETU'S "Vibe from Within" exhibit in the Kimball Gallery, CJ Grosman's BULLYCIDE PROJECT, art-making stations for kids and families, and so much more. Stay tuned!
Join us for this FREE party to celebrate Keith Haring's art and activism.
