The California Institute of Integral Studies invites you to join us Wednesday, December 10th at 7pm in Namaste Hall for an evening of Art and Activism. The Trans* Umbrella: Inclusion and Subjugation is a curated art show that will examine the ways in which the Trans* umbrella simultaneously works as a model of inclusion and subjugation. Specifically, we will explore the concepts and identities that include, but are not limited to: non- binary representations, and the action of queering gender. How do the intersection of race, ethnicity, class, ability, nation status, and culture impact those conceptions and identities.
This event will showcase seven artist and the ways each artist uses their preferred medium to express gender, push the boundaries of, and/or seek to recreate new ways to perform/express gender. The event is also a way to look at, unpack, and expand the concept of a Trans* Umbrella which is currently being used predominately in Academe to refer to anyone who presents/identifies differently from their assigned sex and/or gendered body. Please join us for a night of deep critical inquiry, knowledge building, and as a platform to further interact with the concept of Trans* in a tangible and experiential way.
The event is free and open to all students, staff, and the public. Please take a few minutes to register at http://bit.ly/1tg1ZzD. We look forward to sharing this night with you all! Artist bios below in news feed! If you have any questions or would like further information please contact the curator, Spring Collins at kcollins@ciis.edu.
