Come experience Destroy//, a performance in which dance artist Leyya Tawil asks can a dance be destroyed?
Destroy// YBCA Grand Lobby features Tiberius, musicians Dominic Cramp and Mike Guarino, and a cast of over 23 Bay Area dancers.
Built in one day, the dancers endure a process that makes the execution increasingly impossible, forcing the material into stages of evolution and deterioration.
“Destroy// is not about the dancer being destroyed, it’s about the material being destroyed to reveal the material underneath material.” Tawil explained about the dance she will present for February’s Third Thursday ConVerge, which invites you to participate in this materialization of the unknown and the unexpected.
Destroy// YBCA Grand Lobby, presented by the Converge Series, is part of Tawil’s project called Destroy// All Places – which has visited over 19 cities internationally. To date over 100 dancers and musicians have participated.
ALSO! From 4-6pm - Join artist Kelly Porter in an audience interactive painting where the participant assists in either the creation or the destruction of the piece. The artist will provide small pieces of paper for the participant to create upon and then submit. Each contribution will be used to build or to destroy. Come be a part of this visualization of the infinite cycle of construction and destruction! You can check out more of the artist's work at: www.squidcannon.com.
