“For The Love of San Francisco”, is a collaborative exhibition curated by Bay Area artist Solis. Drawing inspiration from his poem, “Goodbye Sweet Bohemia”, which he read at City Art Gallery, during the annual Lit Crawl event in 2014, Solis curates a show around the theme. The poem eloquently conveyed a message of loss and yearning for the gritty and bohemian lifestyles that were more prevalent when the cost of living was more reasonable in the city that we love, San Francisco.
Solis and a group of participating artists are taking the struggle of the Ohlone, San Francisco ’s native people, as a prime example of how quickly cultures can be pushed out of their homelands and forced to live on the boundaries of what some call “plentiful”. The works exhibited by SF artists are a collection of stencils, print making, and painting providing a unique narrative to express their thoughts on gentrification through art. “For The Love of San Francisco” is meant to provoke conversation and careful consideration of the importance of keeping neighborhoods accessible and diverse. “For The Love of San Francisco” is also a celebration of the city that inspires us to create.
