Gather in the spirit of Bayard Rustin and mix and mingle with local LGBT people of color and friends. The Bayard Rustin LGBT Coalition - BRC formed in 2006 to honor Bayard Rustin - the heart and soul of America's Black Civil Rights Movement. Bayard was Martin Luther King Jr’s mentor, chief organizer, the pioneer of the nonviolent resistance, and the man behind the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, during which Dr. King delivered his momentous and influential “I have a Dream” speech. The Bayard Rustin LGBT Coalition (BRC) engages in activities that facilitate: greater equality and visibility for the Black LGBT community in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, creation of more awareness and public support for marriage equality, support for Black LGBT civil servants, promotion of community-based organizations and entrepreneurs that enhance and or celebrate the lives of Black LGBT persons and families, protection and refuge of at risk LGBT individuals, asylum for LGBT individuals abroad.
