Comment by BKA:
I think I'm just going to sidestep all the rest of the information about this event that has taken place here since 2006.
You can read all that shit on the website, or, perhaps if you've been a part of it, you already know.
We've been lucky to have a VERY gracious host, 111 Minna Gallery, for Sketch Tuesdays. Not only was the idea born here by my friend Sacha Eckes back in May 2006, but 111 Minna has fostered it throughout the years, literally without question, and some times, with little return on money. Some were killer; some were not. But here we are at 100, which is kinda unbelievable to me. I either feel one of two ways about hosting this thing for so long: 1. I was given a good opportunity, or, 2. I'm a robot/worker dude who just wakes up and does the event again and again and again...
Recently I've come to realize something else though: I'm proud of Sketch Tuesdays.
The fact that we have held 100 monthly events? That's rad. More especially rad is all the connections people had sitting next to each other. That's been my favorite part of the whole thing! A guy who used to write for the Bay Guardian (RIP) said "you get get a room full of artists together and its never going to be boring." - Which is the truth.
Sketch Tuesdays could be viewed as a bohemian art fair, I get that. It is.
I just have loved the intimacy and fostering, hosting and helping artists to have a nice time at Sketch Tuesdays, in our little corner of the world. ~ Thanks to all, BKA
