Purple Rain (1984)
A victim of his own anger, the Kid (Prince) is a Minneapolis musician on the rise with his band, the Revolution, escaping a tumultuous home life through music. While trying to avoid making the same mistakes as his truculent father (Clarence Williams III), the Kid navigates the club scene and a rocky relationship with a captivating singer, Apollonia (Apollonia Kotero). But another musician, Morris (Morris Day), looks to steal the Kid's spotlight -- and his girl.
ISSUES:
City College is under attack, and students and faculty have to stand together to defend it. The faculty strike called for Wednesday April 27th will be the first faculty strike in the history of the college. The strike is being called now because the stakes are so high.
Despite the discrediting of the ACCJC, administration continues to do its dirty work. Faculty salaries are underfunded, positions unfilled, and now admin is threatening to shrink the college by 26%, which will permanently decrease access to public higher education in San Francisco.
Withholding labor is the greatest power that the faculty union has to fight for the college, and administration will try to break the strike. They will try to use students as a wedge like in the email the Chancellor sent out last week, claiming faculty are acting selfishly by denying students one day of classes. If students are on the picket line in solidarity with faculty, we can defeat that narrative. We can stand with faculty for the future of City College, that is well-funded, treats workers fairly, and has the diverse course offerings that students need and that faculty want to teach.
Together, students and faculty can fight for the City College San Francisco deserves. Join us on April 27th, where we’ll be picketing all day at Ocean campus from 6:30am – 7:30pm, as well as at the Downtown, John Adams, Mission, and Chinatown Campuses. There will also be a rally at Civic Center campus at noon.
