Join us for our encore event- Murals of the Tenderloin, an exploration of some of the greatest murals of the Tenderloin neighborhood, with a special focus on the unusually detailed and story-packed mural “Windows into the Tenderloin” by Mona Caron, at Jones and Golden Gate.
The evening will comprise of an *optional* Neighborhood Walking Tour, a short film screening, a brief slideshow, and Q&A.
Billy Priest, one of our resident Tenderloin historians, will start the evening leading a Neighborhood Walking Tour with a mural focus, leaving from the Tenderloin Museum at 6pm sharp, and ending at the same place at 7pm.
At 7:15, documentary filmmaker Paige Bierma will present her Emmy award winning short film “A Bush with the Tenderloin” (20 min), aired on KQED’s Truly California, which chronicles the creation of Mona Caron’s "Windows into the Tenderloin”.
After the film, the muralist of "Windows Into The Tenderloin" herself, Mona Caron, will tell about the community process that generated the narrative content of the mural: a process that didn’t just precede, but accompanied the painting of the mural throughout, and kept shaping it in a months-long dialog and visioning process with people in the neighborhood. Mona will tell this story while sharing some photo-documentation and short video clips.
Mona Caron and Paige Bierma will take questions at an informal conversation afterwards.
