Why queer country music? Because sometimes you love a culture that doesn’t always love you back. And when everyone came to the first Gay Ole Opry in April of 2011 in all their country finery, we knew we weren’t alone. We do it because we love the music and want to build a community to support queer country musicians. We do it because everybody needs a honky tonk angel to hold them tight. We do it because we believe in country music for all cowpeople.
The Opry is our big extravaganza, and we also put on the Queer Country Monthly at Branded Saloon in Brooklyn, NY, hosted by Karen & The Sorrows. In the summer of 2015 we were proud to welcome to the family Queer Country West Coast in the Bay Area, hosted four times a year by Eli Conley. More info at www.queercountry.net

El Rio is 21+.
We're playing the back room. No stairs are involved in accessing the club or the back room.
The bathrooms aren't wheelchair-accessible; neither is part of the back patio. If the club is crowded, it may be tricky to navigate with a chair.
We can't guarantee that this will be a lower-chemical space, especially as the rest of the club will be open-access. For information about how (and why) to go fragrance-free, check out Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha's http://www.brownstargirl.org/blog/fragrance-free-femme-of-colour-realness-draft-15.
