Damian Lazarus bio
Since the moment he spun his first record, Damian Lazarus's mission has been a clear and urgent one: to blow away the mediocre, the over-inflated, the obsolete; to seek out and celebrate the energetic, the important, the new. Always rebelling, always going places.
"…and to have fun in the process. Playing around with different styles and ideas is what I do best," Lazarus explains.
Driven by an almost childlike curiosity, a vivid imagination and wicked sense of humor, he's used his role as a DJ, label owner and now musician to nurture and share the most exciting and experimental music on the planet. Drawn to the darkness, but buoyed by the light, ever ready to embrace new ideas and different perspectives on music and the dancefloor, Lazarus is always ahead of the curve, with a wry smile on his face and a neat trick up his sleeve, How many DJs do you know who've played 'Reviewing The Situation (from the Oliver! soundtrack, no less) half-speed to a jubilant crowd at DC10 in Ibiza. How many DJs do you know who've received a sitting ovation on the dancefloor?
Rodriguez Jr Bio
Olivier Mateu’s wide-ranging inspirations and interests find their ultimate outlet as Rodriguez Jr., positioning him as Mobilee’s new master of eclecticism.
As one half of French electro act The Youngsters – best known for their two studio albums and singles for Laurent Garnier’s F-Communications – Mateu has already received enough plaudits and praise to last a lifetime. The Youngsters’ award-winning productions catapulted them into the international arena, taking them to some of the biggest clubs and festivals around the world.
Rodriguez Jr. reveals a different incarnation of Mateu’s musical psyche, one that strides ahead, guided only by his kaleidoscopic vision; moving through shimmering, contemplative electronica, to deep and urgent techno, leftfield melodic accents and quirky pop refrains, Rodriguez Jr. is the by-product of an untamed brand of creativity and a thirst for the new and unexpected. Drawing inspiration from artists as diverse as Stockhausen, LFO, Carl Craig, Eric Satie, Kraftwerk, and Michael Polnareff, Rodriguez Jr.’s spirit of adventure translates as soaring creativity, and music that cannot be pigeonholed.
Mateu manifests Rodriguez Jr. in his MLab Mk5 studio, which brims with vintage synthesizers and dusty analog gear. Acclaimed Rodriguez Jr. releases for imprints such as Mothership, Boxer Records and Giant Wheels, prefaced the quirky melodies of his bass-driven house hit Princess Guacamole for mobilee records, and the tropical techno of Kids of Hula for it’s sister label Leena Music. Drawing both pleasure and inspiration from live performance, Rodriguez Jr. relishes the opportunity to realize his project on the stage, and has done extensively throughout Europe and America.
As he restlessly seeks out the ultimate intersection between all of his disparate influences, Mateu explains it best: “Good electronic music is not a jail,” he says, “It should be enjoyable everywhere, from dancefloors to living rooms, and by everybody.” Now an integral part of the mobilee family, Mateu will continue to channel his vision, passion, and love of music into all that he does, and all that will come.
Canson Bio
Electronics always played a decisive role in the life of Amar Derradj AKA Canson. Born and bred in Zurich, Canson took up an appreticeship in machine design, later got into audio engineering and then sold electronic music in a record shop. In 1993 the techno virus got him, thusly it was only a matter of time for 17-year-old Amar to buy his first synthesizer. Influenced by the deep minimalism of Maurizio, Amar ventured along. In 2000, he released his first record on Stattmuisk under the Anatol moniker, a joint project with Cosili.
First live gigs took place at the Rohstofflager club in Zurich, later on Anatol played at presitigious international venues like the Robert Johnson in Frankfurt, the Batofar in Paris and the WMF in Berlin. In 2002, Derradj debuted as Canson with his record „One Call“. His first releases on his own label Handheld garnered enthusiastic responses (de:bug: „Oh my god, the Swiss!“), more records ensued on Sub Static and Morris Audio.
The rest is a chapter written in the books of Swiss minimal history: With releases on labels such as Cityfox and GS, Canson further established himself as the exceptional Zurich producer he is. His kicking and melodic-romantic club sounds proved to be ever-successful on the international circuit: In October 2010, the Danish label TicTacToe released for instance a remix for Mark Henning. And now, after a ten-year pause, Canson is touring scenes again as Anatol.
Canson has just joined the bar25 booking agency. After all, he has been part of the family ever since his first release on the bar25 label in 2009.
