The Castro can be such a noisy chaotic place. You have loud music in the bars, loud music in the coffee shops, loud music in the stores. It's hard to find a quiet space to just think and let your mind be creative. Shut Up and DRAW will provide a quiet space to come and let your mind run wild, quietly.
The event is free. B.Y.O.S.P. (Bring Your Own Sketch Pad.) feel free to bring your own sketch pads, markers, color pencils or pens. We will also have some sexy and non sexy coloring books for folks to sit and color and meditate. All art supplies are welcome as long as they do not make a mess, or stain our space. Some scratch paper, pens and color pencils will be provided for folks that don't have their own.
PLEASE NOTE: This event will be a completely silent event. If you want to come later in the evening when we will have the social hour, and feature Q n A and booksingning please come at 8 PM.
After the quiet drawing session is over, we will have a Book Signing and Q n A! With Nathan Rapport!
Nathan Rapport is a Texas Based Artist and illustrator. He is the author of the critically acclaimed gay coloring book, "Last Night I Dreamnt Somebody Loved Me." His idea for the book stemmed from going through a tumultuous breakup and the ways in which art as therapy allowed him to question his relationship with casual sex during these tougher emotional times. Much of the impact of the book comes from its playful yet poignant juxtaposition of male-bodied individuals engaging in group sex with the lyrics from classic and beautiful heartbreak songs by singer-songwriters like Tori Amos, Annie Lennox and Prince.
He will be there to talk about the book, answer all your questions about making a coloring book, and will do a book signing.
