“Where have you gone, beyond the limits dusk and dawn, and so on.”
We are preparing for a little string of Fall shows on the west coast, and, at the same time, scattering autumn seeds inward and outwards, drumming up new dreams, blowing the ashes of old ones, cold and dead; a time to refresh.
As the leaves begin to die, too, our faded desires, making room for new births.
We are stirring a cauldron of new songs, delving deep into family sorrow, and looking hard into the distorted face of those who, possessed by demons and angels, mutter under breath curses and prayers.
Two autumns ago we launched, holding hands with fella mates, the thirteen tenets of future feminism, the second; THE SUBJUGATION OF WOMEN AND THE EARTH IS ONE AND THE SAME, has resurfaced in our new work, and is hot on our tongues as we open doors again, peering out to the world, calling out with open hearts.
Our most recent record, Heartache City, we released last summer on our own label, Lost Girls Records; a long time dream which has hardly dawned, with much more on the horizon.
We toured Europe and a few shows in the western United States, kicking it all off in Austin’s SXSW, a wild dusty ride with some great backyard sessions yo can find online.
Some darned case of rusty sore throats and going completely hoarse forced us to cancel the California shows, which have finally come back around, and we are excited to hit the stage in our favorite season, Halloween!
In school, when we were kids, we got asked nearly every day, “What day is it, Halloween?” We walked the halls in curly rainbow wigs and silver platforms, awkward club-queens in handmade getups; only the goths would talk to us. For many years, we were Pippi Longstockings, come the sacred candy/jack-o-lanterned eve. Pippi, a life long idol, has not ceased to bring inspiration with her long black shoes and super strength, and this Halloween, we will don some kind of her on stage and we are inviting our audience to do the same. A room full of Pippi’s sounds like our kind of ball…a dreamy one at that. Don’t forget, she has a pet monkey on her shoulder and a polka dotted horse (also good costume options). Although she is a freckled Swedish redhead, that shouldn’t stop any of us from going black hair-chola-goth or however you want to spin it.
That’s the latest. Come hear the heart-aching songs from our sixth album and a few oldies along with some unexpected tricks and treats. Bring your freak and prepare to dance!
A little bird just flew in our window; she sends her love and so do we.
