Saturnalia is the ancient Roman festival honoring the most complex of the gods, Saturn. After a sacrifice was made in his honor, Roman society was turned on it’s head; schools/courts/exercise regimens/declarations of war were suspended, masters served their slaves at lavish banquets, gifts were exchanged, and everyone was encouraged to express themselves freely and party to excess. Being the modern grrls that we are, expect all the elements of a classic Saturnalia, remixed for the year MMXVI.
Part I: Nourishment + Sacrifice
Enjoy a banquet fit for the gods from noted culinary artisans Beonda Doubt and Zac Benfield. Expand your soul with a wealth of visual delights: Fashions by Justin Denburg and a cavalcade of entertainment hosted by Darwin and Ultra, featuring performaces by Brontez Purnell, Saturn Jones, and SpiceRack favorites Rubyblue Genderbender, Chavaile (Commas Zeros Dollas Dinero), Sable Jones, and Rock M. Sakura!
A Sacrifice to Saturn, illuminated by Three and worthy of this gorgeous collection of people, will cap our show. Pro tip: Ponder something you’re willing to sacrifice to honor Saturn, that hard working god that gets shit done. Carry that in your heart, you reap what you sow.
Part II: Carefree Debauchery
Introducing the curatorial prowess of Comfort & Joy’s latest resident DJ, Trever Pearson (also of BAAAHS/Polyglamorous fame), who's bringing to the table DJs that inspire you to lose yourself in dance on the main floor, under visual demigod Chickpea’s black light splendor. We've got the funky freshness that is Elaine Denham (co-founder of the legendary Oddessey parties, amongst many other events), as well as the legendary Steve Fabus (co-founder of Go BANG!, to name just one gorgeous contribution to the sparkling nightlife).
These DJs won’t just save your life, they will serve it to you on a beautiful platter.
Descend into our update of the Roman Baths, a sensual atmosphere fusing the exotic aesthetics of artists Steve Dudek, Greg Brown, Rob Nevitt, Jacob Perkins (and more!) with the aural stimulations of DJs DiggDeep and Grisecon. Soothe and relax with a tea kiki hosted by Doktor Sprite. Let naked men feed you grapes and other tasty treats.
All proceeds benefit Calamus Fellowship, Comfort & Joy, and Groundswell Institute.
