Now more than ever we need Lizzie Borden's revolutionary 1983 film that rocked the indie film world and inspired activists around the world. Lizzie Borden will be joining us for discussion following the film that is not to be missed.
Set in America ten years after the Second American Revolution the film is eerily still very relevant. While broadcast media and the ruling party commemorate the anniversary, the viewer is quickly introduced to the fact that not all is well in utopia: sexism and racism persist. The plot revolves around two feminist groups in New York City, each voicing their concerns to the public by pirate radio. One group, led by an outspoken white lesbian, Isabel (Adele Bertei), operates "Radio Ragazza" and the other group, led by a soft-spoken African-American, Honey (Honey), operates "Phoenix Radio." Also, there is a Women's Army led by Hilary Hurst (Hilary Hurst) and advised by Zella (real life civil rights activist Flo Kennedy) that initially both Honey and Isabel refuse to join. When both their radio stations are mysteriously burned down and the founder of the Women's Army, Adelaide Norris (Jean Satterfield), suspiciously dies while in police custody, however, they join the Women's Army and a diverse coalition of women - across all lines of race, class, gender and sexual preference - emerges to blow the System apart.

WORKING GIRLS
Molly is a lesbian with an Ivy League degree. Gina plans on opening her own beauty salon. Dawn is a law student. Mary answered an ad to be a “hostess” and decided to try it. Welcome to a typical day in the life of a group of New York City prostitutes. Plying their trade in an expensive, immaculately maintained Manhattan bordello, they deal with everything from the mundane to the profane while servicing men of all shapes, sizes, and odd fetishes. For these working girls, every job may have its price, but every day has its cost. Award-winning feminist director Lizzie Borden (Born in Flames) spent six months interviewing real sex workers for this acclaimed 1986 drama, delivering an unflinching look at “The World's Oldest Profession” filled with rare humor, insight, and honesty.
