The evening will feature three headliners: Marga Gomez (GLAAD Award winner “Best Female Comedian 2016” Bay Area Reporter), Tom Ammiano (Comedian and politician, San Francisco Comedy Day, “Mother of Gay Comedy”), and Carla Clayy ( SXSW, SF Punchline and Cobbs). Festivities will be hosted by Priya Prasad (MTV’s “Beyond The Wall” and NBC’s “Last Comic Standing”) with special guests Butch Escobar (San Jose Improv, Hollywood Improv), and Chey Bell (Comedy Store and Laugh Factory, Los Angeles).
ABOUT BRAVA: Brava! for Women in the Arts celebrates the beginning of its 30th year producing, presenting, and cultivating original work, especially by women, people of color, and lesbian artists and its 20th year as owner and operator of the iconic Brava Theater Center on 24th Street in the Mission. Proceeds from Brava’s New Year’s Eve Comedy Fiesta will further these goals in 2017.

ABOUT COMEDIANS:
Marga Gomez was named “Best Bay Area Comedian” by the SF Weekly, Bay Area Reporter and The SF Bay Guardian. Gomez has been featured on HBO, LOGO, Showtime, Comedy Central and PBS. She is also the author/performer of twelve solo plays. Her latest work “Latin Standards” will premiere Off Broadway, January 2017, at the “Under The Radar Festival.” Gomez teaches solo performance and is the creator/ curator of Brava’s New Year’s Eve Comedy Fiesta. Carla Clayy is a San Francisco original who has wowed audiences in the Bay Area and all over the country for many years. Carla’s act is clean, with wide audience appeal and is just plain funny. Her recent credits include performances at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival and SXSW. Carla also claimed top honors at the “Marshall’s Women In Comedy Competition”
Tom Ammiano is a hilarious stand up comedian and a legendary statewide political office holder. Since 1975 Tom has been at the forefront of reform on many issues including LGBTQ rights, affordable housing, education, labor, immigration, prisons, and marijuana. Tom has also been a standup comic since 1980. His on-stage moniker “The Mother of Gay Comedy” emerged after he pioneered gay comedy night at the Valencia Rose Cabaret in San Francisco. His new biographical show “Mincing Words” was a 2016 hit at the Marsh and enjoyed a popular extended run.
Priya Prasad delivers comedy that is witty, intelligent, thought-provoking, and rich with the cultural experience of an urban East Indian American. Her television credits include NBC's “Last Comic Standing” and MTV’s “Beyond The Wall.” She is in demand at many comedy clubs and festivals including Boston’s Women in Comedy Festival, Desi Comedy Festival and The LA Comedy Festival. Butch Escobar was born and raised in San Jose California and has been honing his comedy skills over the past decade at clubs like The Hollywood Improv and the world famous Comedy Store. He is also highly regarded for producing his long running series “Unfiltered Underground” at the San Jose Improv. Butch has toured the country with crowd pleasing headliners from Doug Stanhope to “Last Comic Standing” winner Felipe Esparza.
Chey Bell is best described as articulately scatter brained, brutally honest and uniquely clever. Chey has moved to the Bay Area from Los Angeles where she was featured at the Comedy Store, Laugh Factory, and Flappers Comedy Club. She is currently preparing to record her first comedy album.
On Saturday, Dec 31st “Brava’s New Year’s Eve Comedy Fiesta,” now in it’s fifth year, will lead the charge into uncharted territory (AKA the New Year) with a diverse line up of satirically endowed, provocatively charming, woke, witty and acclaimed stand up comedians. The laugh fest will be followed by dancing until 1AM, a celebrity DJ, complimentary midnight champagne, munchies and party hats. As we reel from the election aftermath Brava invites you to laugh, dance and reset with friends. Proceeds will benefit Brava! for Women in the Arts.
