Co-curated by Karen Seneferu and Melorra Green The Black Woman is God: Divine Revolution is a group visual art exhibition with free admission celebrating the Black female presence as the highest spiritual form. More than 60 intergenerational artists working in sculpture, painting, new media, and photography create new myths to challenge Eurocentric notions of God.
On Saturday, August 5, The Black Woman is God exhibiting artists will present a variety of artist talks and workshops designed to give attendees hands-on experience and insight into the theme of Divine Revolution.
Workshops will include:
- Genealogy with Tarika Lewis
- Black Goddess Archetypes: Revealed through African Mythology and Astrology presented by Djenne Ba Batties: Black goddess archetypes and ancient African mythology will be explored through astrology and the four elements — Fire, Water, Air and Earth. Learn which archetype you embody!
- Live spoken word performed by Audacious Iam
- Living an Uplifted Lifestyle—Recognize the Divine in You presented by Karin Turner
- Ask An Elder presented by Marnika Shelton and The “It” Cast: A conversation with elders about sexual consent, silence and taboo, gender norms and stereotypes. The discussion aims to create a pathway of healing and understanding across generations. Panelists include Queen Mutima Rose Imani, Juicy D. Light, Tarita Thomas, and Kin Folkz.
