Carriage Inn

(5 Ratings)
An offbeat escape that salutes San Franciscos notables, both naughty and nice.
The carriage has an offbeat, eclectic feel that is inspired by the naughty undertones of the city by the bay. Each room takes on the characteristics of some of the biggest San Francisco legends, from Janis Joplin to the Emperor. Norton.

Good Base for SOMA Exploring

Not a bad choice for exploring the Soma nightlife (powerhouse, hole in the wall, eagle) - hotel is about 0.4 - 0.7 mi from all or a $8 cab ride. Dennys 0.03 mile away for late-night munchies. 4-minute walk from the Metro. All very convenient. Booked my rate on priceline for 35% discount. So, the room - comfy bed (think Starwood quality) which I very much appreciated - and rm was good sized with desk. Good internet and breakfast was fine (boxed for pickup at front desk) - (1) croissant/tasty, (1) yoplait yogurt (1) oj (1) banana - always the same every morning I was there. Room faced 7th street but no noise really. Elevator needs a key so you have to meet visitors in lobby. Downside, room design is garish/quirky (hurt my eyes) and the bath update was done at a budget (kept the old faucet but new countertop that was cracked and bubbled, ugly).

Great hotel in a not so great location

Enjoyed my stay at the carriage and the price was good for the cleanliness/ decor/ and size of the room. This hotel would be a definite 5 of 5 if it were located in a little better/ more lively place. Not really within good walking/ stumbling distance to any good bars and pretty far from pier/ castro/ union square/ powell. If you don't mind a lot of cabs trains etc... then its ok, but definitely can't walk out the door and get to a bustling enjoyable night life all too easily.

Convenience and comfort

Well-placed for access to the SOMA bars as well as central Market Street and the Civic Center. The room was very comfortable and they are each named in honor of a local literati. Parking is extra and rates do not include breakfast, but its a good choice if you want to stay in the area.

Carriage Inn is Great

The hotel is very close to city hall and the gay pride celebrations/Parade. The prices are very reasonable. The room was clean and well decorated and this hotel is in walking distance from Market Street.
