Once again Juanita MORE is hosting the hottest San Francisco Pride Party. This event will take place on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Mission Rock benefiting Bay Positives.
Bay Positives was founded in 1990 as a support group for young people living with HIV/AIDS, and it grew quickly while the virus struck at the heart of our community. As members of the support group noticed there were no agencies geared to meet the special needs of young people, they decided to form their own agency. Bay Positives goals are to work with individual HIV-positive young people to decrease their sense of isolation, reduce their self-destructive behavior, and advocate for themselves within the complicated HIV/AIDS care system.
Half of all new HIV infections strike young people under the age of 25. Nearly thirty years into this epidemic, new infections are still occurring and we still do not have a cure. Its heartbreaking news whenever anyone tells me they have tested positive, and its especially painful when it is someone so young. Im grateful that an organization like Bay Positives exists to help young people in our community with HIV/AIDS to live longer, happier, healthier, more productive and quality-filled lives.
The benefit this June at Mission Rock begins with music by some of Miss MOREs favorite local DJs including Derrick Love of Gemini Disco, James Glass, Chelsea Starr and Kim Ann Foxman of Hercules & Love Affair. From New York DJ Will Automagic & DJ Sean B of SPANK. Performing again by popular demand are the amazing kids from The Cougar Cadet Corps Drumline! A drag show including Glamamore, Miss Rahni, Diamond Daggers and MORE! Art installation by NYC artist Matthew LeBaron. Plus there will be tons of other surprises all day!
