23 features and full-length documentaries highlight the very best of German cinema today, along with seven short films with filmmakers of tomorrow. Among the roster of talents in person: Oscar-winning director, Xavier Koller (“Journey of Hope”); Oscar-nominated director, Marc Rothemund (“Sophie Scholl: The Final Days”); Germany’s rising screen stars, Aylin Tezel and Max Mauff (“Absurdistan”), and rising directors, Katja von Garnier and Christian Schwochow; and Georg Maas, director of Germany’s 2014 Oscar entry and festival opener TWO LIVES, starring Juliane Köhler (Oscar-winning “Nowhere in Africa”) and the legendary Norwegian actress Liv Ullmann.
Other highlights: Detlev Buck’s 3D vision of 19th-century exploration novel by Daniel Kehlmann, MEASURING THE WORLD; Thomas Arslan’s Berliner Schule western GOLD starring Nina Hoss; the war mediation documentary MILES & WAR by Anne Thoma; and Closing Night’s introspective relationship drama SILENT SUMMER by Nana Neul. The Centerpiece is a Lifetime Achievement Award Tribute to the late Peter Sehr, to be accepted by his wife and creative partner, Marie Noëlle, at the screening of the Bavarian biopic LUDWIG II.
