The large outdoor patio draws scruffy bears, otters and leather cowboys, especially during sunny afternoons.

Evolving - Always Different
I must say in all the years I visit San Francisco, it's very difficult to predict what I will see when I go into the Lone Star - sometimes eye-popping musclebears, sometimes a daddy convention, sometimes very empty but with a few high-quality hotties. Sunday's has a legendary beer bust which is worth going out of your way for - as the crowd becomes more lubricated through the afternoon, definitely becomes super friendly. You do have to put up with all kinds of smoke outdoors, from cigars to "medical marijuana", but well that's life. Attentive and hot bartenders generally, clean setup for bathrooms and the like, always very enjoyable, but as I said - for a traveller, completely unpredictable. Usually worth a visit, and Sunday Beer Bust is worth going out of your way for, particularly in sunny weather.
Bear hunting?
Great place to go for some bear action. All different types of clientele from otters, chasers, daddies, and of course bears! Lots of friendly locals and within walking distance to other SOMA bars. Nice pool table. Good selection of liquor with daily beer specials. Great outdoor area stocked with a bar. Recently under new ownership, lets hope this place only improves!
Hot men, not friendly crowd.
Staffs were great. People in general, not so much. Didn't feel welcomed. Left in an hour. But still worth visiting.
The 'star is BEAR BAR USA duh!?!!
Big leather-clad bears used to intimidate me, then I became one! heheheheho! The LONESTAR has been this behr's HomeAwayFromHome! Great fun, great drink, smokables and bears! OH MY!! The patio has a "anything goes" character to it, which is exactly what this behr craves on occassion! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr! Das Behr Santa Clara County Santa Clara County, California
Bearly noticed
Funny thing about the bears: they were supposed to break the old molds of snobbery and cliquishness. Guess what? Now they gather in snobbish cliques at places like the Lone Star. The bartenders are often stressed out and I just don't have a good time here. Beware the patio unless you are an accomplished second-hand smoker.
