Come celebrate peace, creativity, and the start to the 2018 festival season!
Join us as we make history, again. Disco isnât dead, it just got weird.
After 9,773 years of civilization, we all need more weird.
In the not too far away future, we shall harken back to a simpler time, a funkier time, a more colorful time. It was a time of bellbottoms and big collars. A time of big cars and bigger hair. A time when lava lamps lit the land, and rocks were pets. Remember when fun was really fun?
The Disco Ball Inferno - a powerful theme based on a true story. The greatest story ever danced! Join us as we do the time warp back to the 1970s. Just put on a colorful costume and take a jump to the leftâ¦
âThe Disco Ball Infernoâ will be a hymn to high weirdness, and a tribute to all things shiny. This yearâs theme of âThat Hot Disco Thingâ is a parody of the 1970s, when modern communal dancing became mainstream and DJs took over the world. It was the best of times, and the worst of times, but mostly somewhere in the middle. âDisco Days Part 2 - The Weird Yearâ will take place in the heart of the emerging Downtown by the Bay. Surrounded by glistening new towering buildings, âThe Incredibly Strange Adventures of the Ball of Many Colorsâ will be a sanctuary of weirdness in a rapidly gentrifying world. Creativity will be flowing through the streets of San Francisco during âInsert Theme Name Hereâ. Prepare yourselves, for on May 6th the greatest street faire in the galaxy collides with âGreat Disco Balls and the Beanbag Factoryâ.
How Weird happens to be a star in the emerging ultra-conscious potentially semi-transformational independent event movement ( or EUCPSTIEM). An amazing cutting-edge technicolor testament to the future and the past and, of course, the present. So woke we shine like a mirrored ball. Or as they say on the flip side, one wild and crazy faire!
DANCE MUSIC
There will be 10 stages of world-class electronic music, featuring some of the best DJs, music producers, and sound systems on the planet.
The legendary soundtrack for the Disco Ball will be provided byâ¦

CCC (Consortium of Collective Consciousness)
Muti Music, Enchanted Forest, Northern Nights

Six Degrees Records
Mountain Lion Hi-Fi

Think You Can DJ Game Show
Modern Dance Cultue 1.0 (which peaked during the Summer of Love) was an age of experimentation and exploration. Modern Dance Culture 2.0 (as disco is uncommonly called) was an unsuccessful attempt to reach the potential of dance that we now take for granted in the late stages of Modern Dance Culture 3.0 (or EDM). Disco wasnât the dance we wanted, but it was the dance we got. And we would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!
ART ALLEY
Art Alley will shine once again with the abundance of creativity that the San Francisco Bay Area is famous for. Live and exhibited artwork in a rustic urban setting. Be inspired by the wonders. There will also be local arts and crafts vendors, and ambient music from local legends SomaFM.
HOW WEIRD MARKETPLACE
There will be unique and exciting vendors from around the world selling designer goods, clothing, jewelry, art, food, and drinks. Come find new things for the 2018 festival season. Each vendor and bar will be offering magic specials!
GREEN ALLEY
Green Alley will be located on Tehama Street near 1st Street this year. It will be filled with cannabis-related booths, educational opportunities, and visionary presentations. The Green Alley stage will feature inspiring talks and groovy downtempo music by Six Degrees Records. Come learn and be delighted by the evolution of cannabis culture. There will be useful information but no sales of cannabis at the faire this year.
ENTRANCES
Less waiting, more fun. We will be introducing many changes to reduce the wait time at arrival, and will be adding a 4th entrance this year.
The entrances will be atâ¦
Howard & New Montgomery Streets
Howard & First Streets
Second & Folsom Streets
Second & Mission Streets
MAGIC PASSES
The entrance pass will cost $20 at the door.
This year the Magic Pass is required for entry to the faire. In the past, the entrance has been a sliding scale donation. We are working with the city to better control the crowds and lines, while making the faire experience better. The neighborhood has changed a lot since we moved there, and we are grateful to call it home.
The passes will still be Magical. There will be specials at all the faire vendors and bars, including discounts and fun activities and free things.
We recommend getting the presale Magic Passes to save money and time when you arrive, and to show your early support.
Presale passes are $15, or early bird presales for $11.11.
The early bird presales have ended.
And if that incredible deal is still too much for you, then there will be ways to get a pass for free⦠with volunteer opportunities and many contests!
Aside from the changes at the entrances, the How Weird Street Faire is the same as it ever was. The same people who created the faire from scratch, and produced it all 19 years, are still producing it today with the same vibes and intention that it was started with⦠to inspire peace and raise consciousness. And it has been working. Perhaps too well. So hang with us as we adapt to changes around us now that we are in the center of downtown. This ride is far from over. Weâve still got a long way to go!
The How Weird Street Faire is a project of the nonprofit World Peace Through Technology Organization, showing the world that peace is possible. The faire brings diverse people together to make connections and find common ground. Dancing knows no boundaries or political affiliation, and music, more than any other form of communication, is able to transcend differences between people. Come see how fun peace can be. And keep on dancing!
The Fantastic Towering Disco Ball and the Far Out Funky Inferno.
Can You Dig It? Itâs Out of Sight!
What the critics are sayingâ¦
âShocking and thought provoking, with a funky beat.â
âA refreshingly heartwarming and loud action-filled romp by the Bay.â
âCompelling. Riveting. Unforgetable.â
âOne word: Itâs time to boogie!â
âNanu nanu indeed!â
This faire is dedicated to all the generations of people that have danced, and taken their dance to the weird level. And now for something completely differentâ¦

F.A.Q.
âShould I wear a costume?â
Absolutely! Pick a weird one.
âIs there parking?â
Parking is very hard to find. We strongly recommend taking public transportation to the faire. We are close to many options.
âIs it all ages?â
Yes, the faire welcomes people of all ages, and all ages attend.
âCan I bring a backpack?â
Yes, but all bags will be searched. Glass and weapons are not allowed.
âCan I bring my dog?â
Dogs are not allowed. Please donât bring them, itâs too crowded and loud.
âCan I DJ at the faire?â
How Weird does not book any of the DJs. Each stage decides their own line-ups. You would need to contact the stages if you want to play at the faire.
âWill you accept credit cards at the entrances?â
Yes, we will. And if you buy presales then you have even more options for payment. There are also ATM machines inside the faire.
âAre there more answers and questions? I really dig that kind of stuff.â
Sure, there is more on the How Weird websiteâ¦
