What we say

The Castro's longstanding place to dance
Until Badlands opened, this was the only place to dance in the Castro. Even with the competition, the Cafe's large dance floor (made even larger by renovations) is regularly packed. Popular with both the boys and the girls, this club is spacious and even has a courtyard right in the middle of the bar. There's often a line on weekend nights. Lately party promoters have begun special nights (like Boy Bar Fridays) to help revive the crowd here.

***** Ah the memories...

Coming of age and coming out in the SF Bay Area, I practically grew up at The Cafe. There are often lines out the door on weekend nights, and sometimes you can meet your dance partner outside before even getting past the door. My friends and I always enjoyed that there was no cover, and the bartenders were always generous with the pours, especially for a nice tip. You need a centrally located Castro dance club with cute boys and great music? This is it!

***** My "Cheers" bar

I have a lot of loyalty to this place, as it was both my happy hour and late night hangout before the remodel. Boy Bar on Fridays has been one of my favorite bar events for years. I do like the expanded floorplan of the remodel, but wish there was more seating (even if it was just portable ottomans, like Trigger's, that can be removed during busy evenings). Looking forward to them returning to a more normal schedule next month.

***** Disappointed.

I am vacationing from L.A. to San Francisco when I found out that this club/bar is dying. There was no life/music AND people on a Wednesday night when they are only open the whole time I was here (which was Monday to Wednesday). I had great expectations for an R & B, club hits, hip hop music tonight but it fell off the cliff when we were there at 11 pm.
